Purpose

This self help article will help Canvas users to resolve "Your connection is not private" messages when accessing Canvas.

Requirements

Step by Step Procedures

  1. Click on https://letsencrypt.org/certs/isrgrootx1.der to download a certificate.
    •  Enter your macOS password if prompted.
  2. Open the Keychain Access application by selecting Go on the top toolbar and opening the Utilities window.
  3. Open Finder and navigate to the downloads folder then Drag the new ISRG Root X1 certificate into the System folder under Keychains in the left column of the Keychain Access app.
    1. Enter your macOS password if prompted.
  4. Select the System option on the left side of the Keychain Access window under the Keychains section. Then on the lower left side under the Category section, select Certificates.
  5. Locate the certificate titled “ISRG Root X1” and double click it, open the Trust Section on the new window and change the field titled “When using this certificate” from "Use System Defaults" to "Always Trust".
    1. Enter your macOS password if prompted.
  6. Close and enter your MacOS password to confirm the change if prompted.

Verification

Following the steps in this section will verify the steps in the previous section were completed successfully.

  1. Access Canvas
  2. Confirm message is no longer seen when accessing canvas.
