Intended Audience: Everyone
Purpose
This self-help article will help users to activate their Wireless MAC Service Account
Requirements
The user of this article must have active O-Key account in order to successfully accomplish the following procedures.
What is a Wireless MAC Service Account?
Wireless MAC Service Accounts are intended for devices that cannot authenticate to the OSU wireless network using standard O-Key credentials. These devices are commonly referred to as Internet of Things (IoT) devices and may include:
- Smart TVs
- Streaming devices (Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, etc.)
- Gaming consoles
- Wireless printers
- Security cameras
- Smart displays and digital signage
- Other network-connected devices that do not support standard username and password authentication
Wireless MAC Service Accounts should NOT be used for laptops, desktop computers, tablets, or smartphones, as those devices can connect using standard O-Key credentials.
Step-by-Step Procedures
The following instructions will detail how to activate a “Wireless MAC” Service Account. Either the Primary or Secondary Owner(s) can perform these actions.
- As an assigned Owner of the Service Account, you will access your personal O-Key profile via www.okey.okstate.edu. If asked, please confirm your emergency contact information.
- From within your O-Key profile, click on “Service Accounts” on the left pane.
- Choose the appropriate Service Account listed by clicking on the “Activate” link in the Activate/Modify column.
- From the resulting “Password” form, note that the password is automatically populated. This is by design and should not be changed. Passwords for WirelessMAC Service Accounts do not expire. Click on the "Next" button.
- The next page is the WirelessMAC Account Profile. This indicates that you have successfully completed the wizard. The Profile will list all information pertaining to that Service Account. Your account will be populated into the necessary O-Key Global Group during daily processing that will grant access to the OSUREGISTERED wireless network. Your device should be able to access OSUREGISTERED after 10am the following business day.
Please note that a Secondary Owner is required for all Service Accounts. Please refer to "Service Accounts - FAQ" article on how to add Secondary Owner.
Verification
By following those steps correctly, your Wireless MAC Service Account should become active and ready to be utilized on the following business day.
If you go to your O-Key profile and click the "Service Account" menu, you should be able to see that service account is active.
