DNS Record (Create, Modify, Remove)

Overview

Referring to every device by its IP address is both taxing on your memory and inefficient. DNS exists to solve that problem by allowing users to remember names instead of numbers (e.g. "go.okstate.edu" instead of 192.168.1.1).

Features and Benefits

Users may have DNS records made to map names to IP addresses ('A' records), IP addresses to names ('PTR' records), names to other names ('CNAME' records), or names to arbitrary data ('TXT' records). Users may also edit records, or have unused records deleted. Some vendors even ask that you verify ownership of a domain by using a DNS record.
