📅 Create an Event in Outlook Calendar
Add an appointment to your own calendar — no attendees, no invitations.
✅ Before You Begin
  • You need an active NEO A&M College account with SSO access
  • An internet connection is required
  • These steps describe Outlook on the web. The New Outlook desktop app is laid out the same way
  • 🕐 Estimated time: 3 minutes
💻 Which Outlook do these steps describe?
Written for Outlook on the web and New Outlook for Windows, which share the same layout. Classic Outlook for Windows is laid out differently. If your ribbon has a Send / Receive tab, you are using classic — see Classic Outlook vs. New Outlook, or contact the Help Desk if these steps do not match what you see.
📌 Jump to Your Section

📅 Create the Event 🕐 ~2 minutes  |  Any browser
  1. Go to outlook.office.com and sign in with your NEO SSO credentials.
  2. Select Calendar in the app bar down the left side of the window.
  3. On the Home tab, select New event.
  4. Type a name for the event in Add title.
  5. Select the date and time line to expand it, then set Start date, Start time, and End time.
    • Tick All day for something that has no particular time, such as a conference or a day of leave.
    • Outlook offers Time suggestions underneath — open slots on your calendar you can select instead of typing times.
  6. If the event has a place, type it into Add a room or location. Any text is accepted.
  7. Add any notes in the large box underneath.
  8. Select Save.
⚠️ Note: The moment you add anyone to Invite required attendees, the event becomes a meeting and the Save button changes to Send. If you meant to keep it to yourself, leave the attendee line empty.

⏰ Control How It Appears 🕐 ~1 minute  |  Optional
These controls sit along the top of the event form. None of them are required, but two of them change what other people see.
  1. Busy — sets what your colleagues see when they look up your availability. The choices are:
    • Free — the time stays open to everyone
    • Working elsewhere
    • Tentative
    • Busy — the default
    • Out of office
  2. Reminder — when Outlook alerts you. New events use 30 minutes before unless you have changed your default.
  3. Categories — colour-codes the event on your own calendar. Categories are personal and are not shared.
  4. The dropdown at the very top of the form — Calendar, followed by your email address — controls which calendar the event is saved to.
💡 Tip: That last one catches people out. If you help manage a department calendar, check the dropdown at the top of the form before you save — otherwise the event lands on your personal calendar where nobody else can see it.
