Summary
What to do when your Outlook calendar is not showing recent changes: how to tell whether the problem is your device or your account, how long shared calendars take to catch up, and what to collect before contacting the Help Desk.
Body
🔄 My Calendar Is Not Updating
Changes are not appearing, or the calendar looks out of date.
✅ Before You Begin
- You need an active NEO A&M College account with SSO access
- An internet connection is required
- 🕐 Estimated time: 10 minutes
💻 Which Outlook do these steps describe?
Written for
Outlook on the web and
New Outlook for Windows, which share the same layout.
Classic Outlook for Windows is laid out differently. If your ribbon has a
Send / Receive tab, you are using classic — see
Classic Outlook vs. New Outlook, or contact the Help Desk if these steps do not match what you see.
🔍 Find Out Where the Problem Is 🕐 ~3 minutes | Do this first
This one check saves most of the time you would otherwise spend guessing. Your calendar lives on the server; every app is a view of it.
- Open outlook.office.com in a browser and sign in.
- Look for the change that is missing.
- Compare what you find:
- The change is there on the web but not in your app — the account is fine and the problem is that app or device.
- The change is missing on the web too — it was never saved, or it was made somewhere other than where you think.
💡 Tip: Say which of those two you found when you contact the Help Desk. It is the single most useful thing you can tell us, and it removes an entire round of questions.
🔄 Refresh the View 🕐 ~2 minutes | Any browser
- Reload the page in your browser.
- Move to a different week or month and back again — this re-reads the calendar.
- Sign out of Outlook and sign back in.
- Try a different browser, or a private or incognito window, to rule out a cached page.
👥 Shared Calendars Take Longer 🕐 Reference | Expected behaviour
A calendar belonging to somebody else does not update at the same moment theirs does.
- Give a shared calendar time to catch up before treating a delay as a fault.
- Hide the calendar with its tick in the left pane and show it again to force a re-read.
- If it is persistently stale, remove it and add it again through Add calendar → Add from directory.
⚠️ Note: A newly granted permission can also take a while to take effect. If someone has just shared a calendar with you and it is not there yet, that is normal — check again later before reporting it.
📧 What to Send Us 🕐 ~2 minutes | Before contacting us
Having these ready turns a several-day exchange into one reply:
- Whether the change appears on outlook.office.com or not.
- Which app and device you are seeing the problem on.
- Whose calendar it is — yours, or one shared with you.
- The title and date of one event that is wrong, so we can look at the same thing you are.
- Roughly when it last worked.
