A MAC (media access control) address of a network device is a unique identifier assigned to the device's network interface card by the card's manufacturer. The address is used for interface identification and location addressing for network traffic (example: 00:1A:2B:86:37:12, 09-1A-8F-3E-AF-FF).

An IP (Internet Protocol) address is an identifier assigned to a computer or device connected the OSU network. It is used for interface identification and location addressing for network traffic (example: 139.78.000.000, 10.192.000.000, 169.254.118.73, 192.168.0.2, etc.).

What are the IPv4 address types associated with the OSU Stillwater and OSU Tulsa wireless network?
The OSU Stillwater and Tulsa wireless network use 10.###.###.### private IPv4 address format (where ### is a value between 0 and 255). The identification of the IP address format shows the network (DHCP server) assigned the IPv4 address.
A Self Assigned IPv4 address format of 169.254.###.### is assigned when a computer is unable to communicate with the DHCP server to acquire IP settings, forcing the computer to assign itself an IPv4 address.
How do I request OSUGUEST login credentials as an approved IT support person?
OSUGUEST credentials are requested through O-Key by clicking the Short Term Guest Accounts link on the Personal Profile page.
The intended use of OSUGUEST credentials are for a single guest. These credentials are good for a maximum of seven days. If the guest is going to be on campus for an extended period of time, the use of a Long Term Visitor service account credentials may need to be considered. Users should be informed the OSUGUEST wireless network is not encrypted, so any sensitive information that is transmitted over this network needs to be protected with additional encryption.
How do I request OSUGUEST login credentials if I am not an IT support person?
To obtain OSUGUEST credentials, contact your department’s IT support group or the OSU IT Helpdesk.
Please have the following information available:
- First and last name of each guest.
- Brief description of the purpose of the guest’s visit along with the name of person and department making the request. (Ex. Guest speaker at IT Conference. Requested by Pistol Pete of the IT Department.)
- Beginning date guest will need the credentials (the begin date cannot be more than one month in the future).
- End Date guest will need the credentials (the end date cannot be more than seven days after begin date).
Please note:
- The OSUGUEST wireless network is not encrypted. Therefore any sensitive information that is transmitted over this network needs to be protected with additional encryption.
- The intended use of OSUGUEST credentials are for a single department sponsored guest. These credentials are good for a maximum of seven days. If your guest is going to be on campus for an extended period of time, you may want to consider requesting a Long Term Visitor service account.
Who has the ability to connect to the OSUGUEST wireless service on the OSU Stillwater or OSU Tulsa Campus?
OSUGUEST on the OSU Stillwater campus requires authentication.
Individuals with active O-Key, Lion Key, Gold Key, C-Key, or Aggie Access credentials who have an Role granting wireless access (see Service Allocation Handbook) or individuals who have acquired active Short Term Guest credentials from a sponsoring department have OSUGUEST access.
OSUGUEST on the OSU Tulsa campus is an open network not requiring credentials.
What Residential Life buildings currently have wireless access available in each individual residential unit?:
All currently occupied OSU residential buildings have been upgraded for maximum coverage in individual residential units, but users may experience small areas within the upgraded area where service is unavailable. Some residential buildings have had additional conventional wireless access points installed in the ceilings providing extended coverage areas that include the majority of the individual apartments. In all of the family housing and some residential halls, wall mounted wireless access points have been installed in the living room of individual apartments. These access points are equipped with multiple Ethernet ports.

What are the names of EDURoam wireless network participating organizations?:
A list of EDURoam participating organizations can be viewed at the website https://www.eduroam.us/institutions_list.
Next to each organization under the Status heading, you will find either Active (meaning service available), Testing (meaning infrastructure has been implemented and being tested) or In Progress (meaning infrastructure is being setup).
Under the Service Type heading IdP means Identity Provider, allowing the organization’s user credentials to be used anywhere eduroam is broadcast. SP means Service Provider, noting EDURoam is broadcast at the organization’s facilities.
Who has the ability to connect to the eduroam wireless service on the OSU Stillwater and OSU Tulsa Campus?
Current and retired OSU System employees with active O-Key credentials and current OSU System students with active O-Key credentials.
What assigned O-Key global groups allow access to the eduroam wireless service on the OSU Stillwater and OSU Tulsa Campus?
Access to eduroam requires an @okstate.edu login address be used as the username.

What is the OSU Residential Life Computer Support policy for wireless printer setup in OSU Campus Housing?
The OSU Residential Life Computer Support policy for wireless printer setup in OSU Campus Housing states there are three possible ways wireless printers can be installed in OSU Campus Housing. The methods are wired, wireless, and alternative.
When attempting to connect to the eduroam wireless network, the default setup method for wi-fi is failing.
Download and install the eduroam certificate from https://ssl.okstate.edu (redirects to https://it.okstate.edu/documents.html#other) on the Android device as a wi-fi certificate. Use the certificate instead of the Do Not Validate option during the default setup on the device.
Who has the ability to create Wireless Guest Account credentials?
OSU employees who have requested and been assigned the STW_Short_Term_Guest_Access O-Key global group.

Sponsored and invited guests of the university can access the OSUGUEST Network using sponsored wireless guest access credentials provided by the sponsoring department. What wi-fi networks are available on the Langston campuses?
Langston main campus:
- LU Wi-Fi - Does not require authentication
- LU Gaming - For gaming consoles in the dorms; does not require authentication
- LU Signage - For signage on campus; Mac Address is required to connect
- PressboxFS - A network for the press box at the football field on campus
- Eduroam - Requires authentication using instructions at https://it.okstate.edu/services/connectivity/index.html
Langston OKC:
- Langston-OKC - For users on the Langston OKC campus. Does not require authentication to connect.
Langston Tulsa:
- Langston-Tulsa - For users on the Langston Tulsa campus. Does not require authentication to connect.
How do I connect my reMarkable tablet to the Eduroam network?
Faculty and Staff using reMarkable tablets will need to request a Wireless MAC Service Account to connect to OSU Registered network, as reMarkable tablets are currently unable to connect to WPA2-Enterprise networks such as Eduroam.
What locations in student housing still have OSU wireless services?
OSURESLIFE is not broadcasting in the following locations, as Eduroam, OSUGUEST, and OSUREGISTERED are the only wireless networks available in the following student housing locations:

The connection settings for connecting to the Eduroam network for a Google Pixel phone are below:
- EAP Method: PEAP
- Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2
- CA Certificate: Use System Certificates
- Minimum TLS Version: TLS v1.0
- Online Certificate Status: Do Not Verify

How do I connect my mobile device to the eduroam wireless service?

You must be in an area where OSU wireless services are available using a WPA2 Enterprise compatible device (such as computers, mobile devices, etc. not Smart TVs, gaming systems, etc.). You must also either be a current OSU System employee or student with active O-Key account credentials, i.e. @okstate.edu login address or have active credentials from an eduroam participation institution.
If you are a current OSU System employee or student, you can only use your O-Key login address, such as pistolp@okstate.edu, along with your O-Key password. If you are an active member of an eduroam participating institution, you must use your institutional login address and password.
I have acquired a wireless MAC service account. How do I connect to OSUREGISTERED?
Wireless MAC service account devices connect automatically to OSUREGISTERED..
Please note that the OSUREGISTERED wireless network is not encrypted, so any sensitive information that is transmitted over this network needs to be protected with additional encryption.
How do I connect my Smart TV to the eduroam wireless network?
The majority of Smart TVs are not able to connect to wireless on-campus due to them being unable to use WPA2 Enterprise secured networks. Most Smart TVs are WPA2 compatible but not WPA2 Enterprise. These devices include: Apple TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, Vizio Smart TVs, etc.
If the device is WPA2 Enterprise compatible it will connect using O-Key credentials. If the device is not compatible with WPA2 Enterprise secured networks, the device will need to be connected via an Ethernet (wired) connection.
How do I connect my registered wireless network device to the OSURESLIFE wireless service?
OSURESLIFE is only broadcast in OSU Residential Life buildings. The wireless network device must be registered through the My Devices Portal website located at http://osureslife-wifi.ise.okstate.edu.
How do I run a speed test from my network device to collect latency, download, and upload speeds?
You will need to go to the website located at https://fast.com/# to acquire latency, download, and upload speeds.
I attempted to connect to a wireless network on campus, but have no network connectivity. I am getting an IPv4 address automatically assigned (starting with 169.254). How do I obtain an IP address from the campus wireless network?
If acquiring an IPv4 address times out, the operating system may automatically assign an IP address. You can attempt to clear the DNS (Domain Name System) cache and release and renew the IP address.
How do I remove cached or saved school affiliated credentials for a wireless service from my wireless network device?

If you have previously connected to a wireless service and set up the network device to connect automatically, you will have cached or saved school affiliated credentials on your network device. If you change your school affiliated password, you may need to remove the cached or saved school affiliated credentials to allow entry of the updated school affiliated credentials.
How do I find a Short Term Guest account (used for OSUGUEST wireless access) on the O-Key administrative website?
Short Term Guest accounts are found through the O-Key Administrative website (https://okey.okstate.edu/admin) to view existing accounts.
How do I determine the wireless connection speed between my device and the connected wireless access point?
The connection speed is usually listed within a Network or Connections utility within the Operating System.
The connection speed is maximum achievable network speed between a device and a wireless access point, not the actual speed the device is transferring data. You need to be connected to a wireless service at the time of determination.
How do I find a quarantined IP address or blocked MAC address on the Security Block Management website?

OSURESLIFE is a non-encrypted wireless service created for OSU Residential Life residents, requiring active O-Key credentials for registration to http://osureslife-wifi.ise.okstate.edu .
WPA2 Enterprise compatible wireless network devices, such as computers and smartphones, are recommended to be connected to eduroam.
How do I set up my wireless network capable computer to connect to the eduroam wireless service?
Your wireless device must be WPA2 Enterprise compatible. Most computers and mobile devices are WPA2 Enterprise compatible; however, the majority of smart TVs, wireless printers, and gaming systems are not.
