Purpose

This self-help article will assist end users to request an O-Key Username change.

Valid reasons for requesting a username change are:

  • A legal name change due to marriage
  • Current username is offensive or inappropriate.

For employees with Banner Security, we strongly discourage requesting a username change.

In Banner, your username is recorded as the user who last modified a record, which is critical for maintaining accurate audit trails. Changing your username can disrupt this tracking and may affect data integrity.

If you choose to proceed, please note that all your existing Banner Security permissions must be manually transferred to your new Banner INB account. This is a time-consuming process and may result in temporary access delays.

Requirements

Step by Step Procedures

  1. Go to Service - ID Management Support and click on the 'Username Change' button. A new page will open. Fill out and submit the form.
  2. Request username change (Usernames can be no longer than 8 characters and cannot have special characters in them).
  3. Under the Ticketing Details section, please enter your username suggestions in the following order:

    1. most preferred username
    2. second most preferred username
    3. third most preferred username

  4. To change a username we must request Identity Verification (IV) for data security purposes. Please fill out the Identity Verification in the ticket with the following information.

    • A photo of your signature with your hand written name clearly printed below it (can not be digital)
    • A selfie-style picture of you holding your photo ID next to your face (A&M affiliated ID or a government issued ID in a picture where we can clearly compare your face to the ID photo)
    • Contact phone number
    • Contact e-mail
    • Banner ID (If Known)
    • Date of Birth
    • First and Last Name
  5. Once we receive the three possible usernames from you along with the Identity Verification and a picture ID, and we have confirmed that no other user is using at least one of the requested usernames, a username change may be provisioned. 

Verification

Once the username has changed, you should see the new username in your account.
