Microsoft Intune & GoldKey
🔑 GoldKey and macOS Login – Password Compatibility Issue & Requirements
Understand why your GoldKey password may be accepted but still block you from signing in to your macOS device — and how to fix it.
📋 Before You Begin
- You use a university-managed macOS device enrolled in Microsoft Intune.
- You have access to your GoldKey (O-Key) account at the O-Key password management portal.
- Your current GoldKey password may contain repeating or sequential characters.
- Estimated time: 5–10 minutes to update your password
- Required: Internet connection, GoldKey credentials
⚠ Important Notice
A known compatibility issue exists between GoldKey (O-Key) passwords and macOS login on devices managed through Microsoft Intune. If your GoldKey password contains repeating or sequential characters, you may log in to GoldKey successfully but still be blocked from signing in to your macOS device. Follow the instructions below to resolve this issue.
🔍 What Is the Issue? 2 min read
GoldKey (O-Key) allows passwords to contain up to 3 repeating characters in a row (for example, aaa or 111). However, Microsoft Intune's macOS compliance policy only permits up to 2 repeating characters.
Because of this difference, a password that GoldKey accepts may still be rejected by your Mac when you try to log in. OKST Security has reviewed this issue and confirmed that Intune's policy will not be changed, as relaxing the restriction could allow weak passwords (such as 1234 or aaaa) to be set on local accounts.
This means some users may enter their correct GoldKey credentials and still be unable to log in to their macOS device.
ℹ Final Verdict (4/9/2025): OKST Security denied changing the Intune macOS compliance policy to disable simple passwords. The reasoning is that disabling "simple passwords" would allow local accounts to be created with passwords such as 1234, aaaa, or abcd.
👤 Who Is Affected? 2 min read

- Your current GoldKey (O-Key) password contains two or more repeating characters in a row (e.g.,
aa, 11, !!) or sequential numbers (e.g., 12, 123, 20).
