โ
Before You Begin
- You need an active NEO A&M College account with SSO access

- Your NEO email address, in the form
name@neo.edu
- ๐ Estimated time: 10 minutes
๐ป Which Outlook do these steps describe?
Written for
Outlook on the web and
New Outlook for Windows, which share the same layout. Where
classic Outlook for Windows differs, the steps are in
In Classic Outlook further down this page.

๐ First, Check Whether It Is Already There ๐ ~1 minute | Do this first
On most NEO computers your mailbox is added for you the first time you sign in to Windows. Adding it a second time is the most common cause of duplicate folders.
- Open Outlook from the Start menu.
- If your mail appears, you are finished โ there is nothing to set up.
- Your folders are listed down the left-hand side.
- If you are asked to add an account, continue with the section for your version below.
โ ๏ธ Note: If Outlook opens to somebody elseโs mailbox, do not add your account alongside it. Contact the Help Desk โ the computer is signed in to Windows as another person.
โจ In New Outlook ๐ ~5 minutes | New Outlook for Windows
New Outlook is the version with only Home, View, and Help on the ribbon, and a column of icons down the far-left edge.
- Open Outlook. On a first run it offers to add an account.
- Enter your full NEO email address โ
name@neo.edu โ and select Continue.
- If an account is already listed, select it rather than typing the address again.
- Sign in with your NEO password and approve the multi-factor prompt if you receive one.
- Wait for your mail to download. On a large mailbox the first sync can take several minutes.
๐ก Tip: To add another account later, select the Settings gear in the top-right corner, then Accounts, then Add account.
โ ๏ธ Note: This step is marked for verification. It was written from Microsoftโs published documentation rather than confirmed on a NEO machine, so a button name may differ. If what you see does not match, tell the Help Desk so this article can be corrected.
๐๏ธ In Classic Outlook ๐ ~5 minutes | Classic Outlook only
Classic Outlook is the version with a Send / Receive tab on the ribbon. Its account setup lives behind the File tab.
- Select the File tab in the top-left corner.
- On the Info page, select Add Account.
- Enter your full NEO email address and select Connect.
- Sign in with your NEO password and approve the multi-factor prompt if you receive one.
- Select Done, then restart Outlook when you are prompted.
๐ก Tip: File โ Info also holds Account Settings, Automatic Replies, and Manage Rules & Alerts โ the three things people most often go looking for.
๐ง If Setup Does Not Complete ๐ ~5 minutes | Common causes
- Outlook keeps asking for your password. Cancel the prompt, close Outlook completely, then reopen it.
- If it asks again, stop and contact the Help Desk rather than re-entering the password repeatedly โ repeated failures can lock the account.
- You see a message that an encrypted connection is not available. Check the computer is on the network, then try again.
- Setup finishes but no mail arrives. Allow ten minutes on a large mailbox, then check the same account at outlook.office.com.
๐ก Tip: If the web version shows your mail and the desktop app does not, the mailbox itself is fine and the problem is on that computer โ useful information to give the Help Desk.
