Sync OneDrive to Your Computer

๐Ÿ’พ Sync OneDrive to Your Computer
Work in File Explorer, with everything saved to the cloud.
โœ… Before You Begin
  • You need an active NEO A&M College account with SSO access
  • An internet connection is required
  • A NEO-managed Windows computer
  • ๐Ÿ• Estimated time: 15 minutes

๐Ÿ’พ Set It Up ๐Ÿ• ~5 minutes  |  Windows
โš ๏ธ Note: These steps come from Microsoftโ€™s current published documentation rather than from a walkthrough on a NEO computer. The button names should match; if yours differ, tell the Help Desk so this article can be corrected.
  1. On most NEO computers OneDrive is already signed in. Look for the cloud icon near the clock.
  2. If it is not, open OneDrive from the Start menu and sign in with your full NEO email address.
  3. Accept the default folder location when prompted.
  4. Wait for the first sync to finish. On a large OneDrive this can take a while.
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Once it is set up, OneDrive - NEO A&M College appears in File Explorer. Save into it exactly as you would any other folder.

โ“ What the Icons Mean Reference  |  ~3 minutes
The small badge on each file tells you where that file actually is. This is the part that confuses people most.
  1. A blue cloud โ€” the file is online only. It takes no space on your computer, and opening it downloads it.
  2. A green tick outline โ€” the file has been downloaded and is available offline.
  3. A solid green tick โ€” the file is pinned to always stay on this computer.
  4. Blue circular arrows โ€” the file is syncing right now.
  5. A red circle with a cross โ€” the file is not syncing. See Fix OneDrive Sync Problems.
๐Ÿšจ Warning: A blue cloud file cannot be opened without an internet connection. Before travelling or presenting somewhere with poor Wi-Fi, mark what you need as Always keep on this device.

๐Ÿงน Free Up Disk Space ๐Ÿ• ~3 minutes  |  Safe
โš ๏ธ Note: These steps come from Microsoftโ€™s current published documentation rather than from a walkthrough on a NEO computer. The button names should match; if yours differ, tell the Help Desk so this article can be corrected.
  1. Right-click a file or folder in File Explorer.
  2. Select Free up space.
  3. The file becomes online-only. It stays in OneDrive and is still listed โ€” it just no longer takes room on the disk.
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: The reverse is Always keep on this device, which downloads it and keeps it.
โš ๏ธ Note: Free up space does not delete anything. Deleting the file from File Explorer does delete it from OneDrive, on every device.
