How to Find Your IP and MAC Address (Windows, macOS, and Mobile)

🌐 How to Find Your IP and MAC Address
Locate your device's IP address and MAC (physical) address on Windows, macOS, and mobile devices — the details IT often needs for device registration and support requests.
✅ Before You Begin
  • Your IP address is the address assigned to your device on a network — it can change when you switch networks.
  • Your MAC address (also called the physical or hardware address) is a fixed identifier built into each network adapter — it does not change.
  • A device may have a separate MAC address for Wi-Fi and for wired/Ethernet. Be sure you read the one for the connection you're registering.
  • For device registration, IT almost always needs the MAC address.
1. Windows 11 / Windows 10 ⏱️ ~2 minutes
  1. Click the Start menu, type cmd, and open Command Prompt.
  2. Type ipconfig /all and press Enter.
  3. Find the section for your connection — Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter.
  4. Your MAC address is listed as Physical Address (for example, 00-1A-2B-3C-4D-5E).
  5. Your IP address is listed as IPv4 Address.
💡 Tip
On Windows you can also go to Settings > Network & internet, click your active connection, and scroll to Hardware properties to see the IP and Physical (MAC) address without using a command line.
2. macOS ⏱️ ~2 minutes
  1. Click the Apple menu and open System Settings (or System Preferences on older versions).
  2. Click Network, then select your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
  3. Click Details (or Advanced). Your IP address appears on the TCP/IP tab.
  4. Click the Hardware tab to see your MAC Address.
  5. For Wi-Fi, you can also hold Option and click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar to view the address quickly.
3. iPhone & iPad (iOS / iPadOS) ⏱️ ~2 minutes
  1. Open the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the (info) icon next to the network you're connected to.
  3. Your IP Address is listed under the IPV4 Address section.
  4. Your MAC address is shown as Wi-Fi Address near the bottom of the screen.
⚠️ Warning
Modern iPhones and Android phones use a Private (Randomized) Wi-Fi Address by default, which gives a different MAC address per network. If you're registering the device, turn this off for the campus network first, or the address you report won't match what the network sees.
4. Android ⏱️ ~2 minutes
  1. Open the Settings app and tap About phone (or About device).
  2. Tap Status information (wording varies by manufacturer).
  3. Look for IP address and Wi-Fi MAC address in the list.
  4. Alternatively, go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, tap the connected network's gear/info icon, and view its details.
💡 Tip
A MAC address is always 12 hexadecimal characters, shown in pairs separated by colons or dashes (for example, A1:B2:C3:D4:E5:F6). When you send it to IT, double-check each character to avoid registration delays.
