Microsoft Teams: Start Here

💬 Microsoft Teams: Start Here
Meetings, chat, and shared files — the common tasks in one place.
✅ Before You Begin
  • You need an active NEO A&M College account with SSO access
  • Nothing to install — Teams works in a browser as well as the app
  • 🕐 Estimated time: 2 minutes

📌 Choose What You Need Directory  |  Pick a task
These guides describe the Microsoft Teams desktop app. The browser version at teams.microsoft.com is laid out the same way.
💡 Tip: Teams also has guides on when to chat instead of email and managing notifications, plus creating a new team.

🧭 Finding Your Way Around Reference  |  ~2 minutes
Everything in Teams is reached from the column of icons down the left edge.
  1. Activity — everything that has happened since you last looked.
  2. Chat — one-to-one and small group conversations.
  3. Teams — larger shared spaces, divided into channels.
  4. Calendar — your meetings, the same ones as in Outlook.
  5. Calls — dialling and voicemail.
⚠️ Note: Chat is for conversations. A team is a shared workspace with files and channels that new members can read back through. Work that a future colleague will need belongs in a team, not in a chat.
💡 Tip: Every rail item has a keyboard shortcut — Ctrl+2 for Chat, Ctrl+3 for Teams, Ctrl+4 for Calendar.
